Incheon Airport Parking Strain: 31,265 Employee Passes Equal 84.5% of Spaces

South Korea’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on May 14 audit findings on Incheon International Airport Corp.’s employee parking system, confirming that 31,265 paid and free regular parking passes had been issued to employees of the corporation and its subsidiaries. The figure equals 84.5% of the airport’s 36,971 long- and short-term parking spaces. The audit found that the corporation had issued employee passes without a set limit. It also found cases in which non-resident workers received free passes for short-term passenger terminal parking, an area highly preferred by airport users. Free passes were also used for private purposes such as annual leave and lunch, rather than commuting. Last year, employees used airport parking during leave in 1,220 cases, with waived fees totaling 79 million won.
