Hyundai Mobis Lamp Unit Sale Dispute Widens as Hyundai IHL Strikes
Published: · Source: rss.donga.com

A labor dispute is intensifying after Hyundai Mobis decided to sell its lamp business. About 700 members of the Hyundai IHL labor union, a Hyundai Mobis subsidiary, held a rally at 2 p.m. on the 13th in front of the Hyundai Mobis office on Teheran-ro in Gangnam, Seoul, to block the sale. Hyundai Mobis decided in January this year to sell the lamp division to global auto parts company OPmobility. Hyundai IHL’s union rejected the plan and has been on a full strike since the 27th of last month. Together with the Korean Metal Workers’ Union under the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, it is demanding that Hyundai Mobis, as the original contractor, take responsibility and join negotiations. Another subsidiary, Motras, plans to join the strike next month. Market observers see the case as reflecting concerns raised during debate over the so-called Yellow Envelope Act.
