Samsung Electronics has entered emergency management, including adjustments to semiconductor output, ahead of the union’s planned strike on the 21st. The union is demanding a performance bonus equal to 15% of operating profit. As of the 14th, 43,286 employees had applied to join the strike, about 56% of the roughly 77,300 workers in the Device Solutions division, which oversees the chip business. Semiconductor production runs around the clock through about 800 process steps, so any line shutdown could cause major damage. Industry Minister Kim Jung-kwan wrote on X that a factory stoppage could cause up to 1 trillion won in production disruption per day, and that if all wafers currently being processed were damaged, losses could reach up to 100 trillion won. He also warned of damage to about 1,700 partner firms. Source: rss.donga.com
