Korea to Shift Nuclear Plant Export System to Government-Led ‘One Team’ Model
Published: · Source: rss.donga.com

South Korea will change its nuclear power plant export system, previously divided between Korea Electric Power Corp. and Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, into a government-led “one team” model. The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced the plan on the 14th at the first 2026 Nuclear Export Strategy Council meeting chaired by Minister Kim Jung-kwan. The move follows a legal dispute overseas between the two public companies over settlement of additional construction costs for the Barakah nuclear plant in the UAE. The government will directly oversee export strategy and risk management, and create a public-private Nuclear Export Planning Committee under the council. Government bodies, public firms and experts will support project planning, economic review and risk checks. The previous system in which KEPCO and KHNP divided export target countries will be abolished. Source: rss.donga.com
